Job Description

  • Undertake responsibility on a day-to-day basis for the specialist service area of ultrasound and effective utilisation of all resources allocated.
  • Perform ultrasound scans in Obstetrics, including early pregnancy, dating, anatomy and ongoing assessment in pregnancy.
  • Perform ultrasound scans (3D) in Gynaecology using viewpoint, to include fertility monitoring ( ovarian follicles), assessment of anatomy of the female pelvis, and first trimester pregnancy with effective utilisation of all resources allocated as per clinic SOPs.
  • To advise and instruct nurses after monitoring patients during treatment cycle of the next step, to consult with the doctors as and when necessary.
  • Monitor endometrial thickness for patients preparing to start their fertility treatment and to consult with a doctor and/or nurse when needed.
  • Carry out clinical examinations including Tran’s abdominal, transvaginal and Doppler techniques.
  • To review the ultrasound SOP & competency frame work
  • Liaise with the consultants, nurses and patient coordinators on an ongoing basis to ensure the smooth running of the department.
  • Communicate and liaise with medical staff, other centres and other health care professionals (as required and permitted) to provide safe and effective treatment and care of patients.
  • To take part in training nurses in follicular tracking
  • Responsible for reporting of findings by use of computerized software and filing reports in patient notes on IDEAS.
  • Use good judgment when determining if the procedure was sufficient for a proper diagnosis, or if additional imaging procedures are needed.
  • Be accountable for the quality of the service provided, including customer service, communication with the patient to ensure their comfort during the procedure, and technical aspects.
  • Implement and maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with clinic SOPs and national standards.
  • Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement and upgrading. Maintain accurate records of equipment service, maintenance, malfunction, downtime and performance as required and co-ordinate preventative maintenance schedules in accordance with clinical demand.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical, technical and radiographic developments in relation to ultrasound and promote awareness of new developments.
  • Ensure best practices are implemented and maintained.
  • Manage use of consumables efficiently.
